19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid season, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since March of 2023.

Success also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.

He rescued four initial chances in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
